  Tourism Time in Xinjiang

Xinjiang Travel Guide: About how much does it cost? Can we go to the Duku Highway?

The tourist season in Xinjiang generally runs from June to September. After the National Day holiday in October, the number of tourists drops by 80%-90%, and winter tourism begins. Many places are prone to road closures due to snow, making them unsuitable for travel. In June, you must visit Route 3 to see the flower sea on the grasslands. If you go to Route 3 in late September, the grasslands will be withered, let alone the flowers, there will be nothing much to see. In September, you must visit Route 2, Kanas, preferably in the middle to late part of the month, to see the golden birch forest. Moreover, September is just the time when fruits are harvested. Therefore, if you are visiting Xinjiang for the first time, it is recommended to go in mid-to-late September.

  Things to Prepare

Cash! Northern Xinjiang in September and October is already very cold. Before we went, it had already snowed in Kanas, so prepare down jackets and raincoats, keep warm and waterproof (often snowy weather), and wear non-slip shoes. We also brought hand warmers, flashlights, some medications, disposable underwear, and of course, the most important are IDs, phones, cameras, and chargers.

Insufficient reception capacity during peak seasons. There are too many tourists. When I was in Hemu Village, which wasn’t even the peak season, I waited in line for 3 hours before I could take the scenic area shuttle bus. It’s said that this wasn’t even crowded. Countless people were waiting in line. During the National Day holiday, it was even more exaggerated. Many scenic areas in Xinjiang do not allow standing in the shuttle buses, which are all tourist buses, with one seat per person, and only about 30 people per bus. Kanas is the same, with long waits to board.

  What to Eat in Xinjiang

In September, the fruits are fragrant. The fruits in Xinjiang are fresh and delicious. Just grapes alone come in so many varieties, and the prices are cheap. Nang, various kinds of nang can be preserved for many days. They are fragrant and crispy, very suitable as dry food. Lamb, various ways of cooking lamb. The lamb in Xinjiang is different from ours. Their sheep eat grass, they are free-range, and their lamb meat is firm.
