Xinjiang is a place where ‘every mountain has treasures, every basin has oil, and every river has fish’. This has resulted in numerous strongly contrasting oasis and desert scenic areas, making it one of the important regions for tourism development in China. According to the ‘Regulations on the Census of Tourism Resources in China’, tourism is divided into six major categories such as geomorphic landscapes and water landscapes. Famous tourist attractions such as the ancient cities of Loulan, Gaochang, Jiaohe, and Beiting are all key cultural relics protection units under national protection. The Kizil Thousand Buddha Caves and Kumtura Thousand Buddha Caves, which are collectively known as the Four Great Grottoes of China along with Dunhuang, Yungang, and Longmen, are of great historical value for studying Kucha Buddhist art. The rich cultural heritage has become an important human landscape tourism resource in China. Flocks of cattle and sheep graze on the Nalati Grassland. There are a total of 468 tourist attractions (spots) in Xinjiang, including 27 national A-level attractions, among which there are 3 4A-level attractions and 5 3A-level attractions. A development pattern of ‘five regions and three routes’ has been formed, with the ‘Silk Road’ as the main line, focusing on the Kanas Lake Ecological Tourism Area, Tianchi, Sayram Lake, and Bosten Lake Scenic Areas, the ancient cultural site tourism areas of Turpan and Kuqa, the folk customs tourism area of Kashgar, and the northern China-like scenery tourism area of Ili. A number of influential tourism products at home and abroad have been developed, including Tianchi, Kanas, Grape Valley, Nanshan, and Golden Beach.
Nalati Grassland
Nalati Grassland is located on the northern slope of Nalati Mountain and is a mid-mountain grassland developed on the Pliocene ancient pluvial deposits. To the southeast, the high ridges of Nalati form a natural barrier, while to the northwest, the valley of the upstream巩乃斯 River drops steeply, with a large area sloping down. The mountain springs are dense, and streams crisscross everywhere.
Kanas Lake
Kanas Lake is located in the north of Burqin County, 150 kilometers away from the county seat. It is an alpine lake nestled in the deep mountains and dense forests of the Altay Mountains. Kanas is not only rich in natural resources and biological species but also distinctive in its tourism environment and cultural resources.
Wuerhe Devil City
Wuerhe Devil City covers an area of about 10 square kilometers, with an altitude of around 350 meters above sea level. According to research, about 100 million years ago, during the Cretaceous period, this was a huge freshwater lake with lush vegetation growing along the lakeshore, making it a paradise for aquatic life.
Tianchi Scenic Area
Tianchi Scenic Area is 110 kilometers away from Urumqi. Tianchi Lake is located in the central and northern parts of the scenic area. Legend has it that this was once the bathing pool of the Queen Mother of the West. The lake water is clear and transparent, surrounded by dense spruce trees. Behind it stands the snow-capped Bogda Peak, with tall and verdant spruces and pine trees covering the mountains, blocking out the sun and sky. The lake scenery and mountain views constitute the charming alpine scenery of Tianchi Lake, known as the ‘Bright Pearl of Tianshan’.
