The Kanas scenic area is located in the middle section of the Altay Mountains in northern Xinjiang, in the golden zone bordering Kazakhstan, Russia, and Mongolia. Its natural and cultural landscapes have always retained their primitive features and are therefore known as the "Pure Land on Earth".
The Kanas Tourist Area borders on the 48°13′ north latitude as its southern boundary, with Hemu Township to the east, and extends northwest to the border. It has a planned area of 10,030 square kilometers, encompassing the Kanas National Nature Reserve, Kanas National Geopark, Baihaba National Forest Park, Jiadenyu National Forest Park, the Burqin River Valley, the Hemu River Valley, the Hemu Grasslands, and the villages of Hemu, Baihaba, and Kanas—three primitive Tuwa villages. These are seven renowned natural landscapes and three human landscapes both domestically and internationally. Among them, Kanas Lake is hailed as "the most beautiful lake in the world".
Kanas is truly beautiful, as if painted. The scenic area buses operate in sections. To reach the main scenic area from the foot of the mountain, you need to take a bus. There are several attractions along the way. Once at the main scenic area, you are free to roam and take your heart’s content of photos!
In spring, Kanas is adorned with mountain flowers and lush grass; in summer, it is verdant and the lakes shimmer; in autumn, the forests are tinted with colors and the water shimmers like jade; in winter, Kanas is dressed in silver and is pure and immaculate. The scenery of Kanas varies through the seasons and changes with the weather, presenting a myriad of meteorological phenomena.
