Kanas, Xinjiang
Flipping through the beautiful autumn scenery of China, when Tianshan Mountain, Colorful Beach, Keketohai, Kanas, Baihaba, Hemu Village, Devil City, Populus euphratica Forest, snow-capped mountains, grasslands, forests, lakes, rivers, wooden cabins, Tuvas, herding, herdsmen, yurts, mutton eaten with hands, sunset, starry sky, plateau, desert, Gobi, Yardang, beautiful women, music, dance, cuisine…come into view, one can no longer suppress the impulse from within. That’s right, only after visiting Kanas can one truly appreciate the essence of autumn scenery.
September and October are the best seasons to visit Kanas. Before the first snowfall, capture the dazzling moments. The beauty of Xinjiang is rugged yet charming. Kanas’s azure sky, ever-changing lake water, tall and straight poplars, beautiful birch forests, golden leaves, and vibrant colors, coupled with the Tuwa people’s wooden cabins, fences, cattle, sheep, and horse herds, as well as the charmingly named Wolong Bay, Moon Bay, and Shenxian Bay, are enough to satisfy your definition of autumn.
It’s not an exaggeration to say that the autumn scenery of Kanas is stunning. When you press the shutter, many people will be amazed by the masterpiece of nature. There are various colors loved by photographers here. Even if you are a beginner or a casual enthusiast in photography, with just a casual snap, you can capture a breathtaking masterpiece.
The gods’ private reserve – Hemu
Hemu Village in Xinjiang is located in a fault basin among mountains at the confluence of the Kanas River and Hemu River. It is the northernmost township in western China and a concentrated living area for the Tuwa people. It is one of the only three remaining Tuwa villages (Hemu Village, Kanas Village, and Bahaba Village).
Hemu Village is famous for its colorful and enchanting autumn scenery. Smoke rises in the autumn scenery, forming a dreamlike smoke belt, resembling a fairyland.
In the morning, on the observation deck of Hemu Village, you can enjoy the sunrise, snow-capped mountains, and trickling streams in the distance, and take a closer look at the Tuwa people’s homes. The sunrise, morning fog, wooden cabins, and Hemu River constitute a charming fairy tale world.
The most beautiful season in Hemu is from mid-September to early October each year. Due to latitude and altitude, autumn comes here earlier than in the mainland. In the golden autumn, the forests are stained with all kinds of colors, creating a splendid and colorful scenery. No matter where you look, you will see a warm and bright golden yellow – rivers, wooden houses, smoke, birch forests, and distant snow-capped mountains. It constitutes a paradise for photographers in the golden autumn.
Baisha Lake
The scenery of Baisha Lake is very unique. In June, lotus flowers bloom in the lake, with ducks swimming among them. In the golden autumn of October, red and yellow leaves flutter in the wind. The green water of the lake is like a mirror, reflecting the mountains. Whether viewed from afar or nearby, the scenery is magnificent. The sandy ground, under the sunshine, emits a faint fragrance of earth, making people enchanted. The golden Mingsha Mountain in the distance is reflected in the green water of the lake, surrounded by mixed forests, creating a perfect natural miniature landscape in front of visitors. It is called the "Little Jiangnan in the Northern Frontier" (free admission under the latest policy).
The most stunning moments at Wucai Beach and Wuerhe Devil City are in the evening. The sunset enhances the mystery of the colorful Wucai Beach, and the Devil City bathed in the afterglow of the sun (fire clouds) is definitely a great spot for photography… These stunning and magnificent wonders can only be perfectly captured at the right time and angle. Our photography guide will arrange to enter the scenic area at the best time for sunset, capturing the breathtaking beauty under the setting sun, ensuring that your trip to Xinjiang leaves no regrets.
