The world of blue bays—Keketohai
This place is not only the "coldest place" in Xinjiang, but also a rare "hometown of gemstones" in China, and even a rare "natural mineral exhibition hall" in the world. Along the way, visit Yeya Lake—Kekesuli, and arrive at the famous Irtysh River Grand Canyon. These geological heritages have rare and precious value in the world, forming a dazzling scenic spot on the mysterious tourist route around Dzungaria in Xinjiang. Take an electric cart to appreciate scenic spots such as Turtle Stone, Birch Forest, Couple Tree, and Stone Gate along the way, and visit the famous landmark of Keketohai—Shenzhong Mountain.
The pure fairyland known as the "Eastern Little Switzerland"—[Kanas]
If you come to Xinjiang for a trip, you must visit Kanas. The rejuvenation of all things in spring, the fiery passion in summer, the absolutely romantic scenery in autumn, and the purity in winter. Every place seems to be telling the story of Kanas’ beautiful scenery. The morning at "Shenxian Bay" is like a layer of milky white mist gently floating and rising, creating a hazy fairyland-like ambiance. The "Moon Bay", a popular attraction, shines with mysterious charm under different light. Climb up to the commanding height of Kanas Lake—Fish Viewing Pavilion, overlooking the panoramic view of Kanas Lake. Looking north, you can see the glittering Friendship Peak Glacier in the sunshine. Looking south, the Kanas River winds like a green ribbon among the towering mountains. Looking west, you can see a vast expanse of lush green grass.
Kanas—Wolong Bay
In the middle of the lake here lies a winding sandbar area, looking like a dragon coiled within. The entire Wolong Bay winds through the lush and beautiful primitive forest. Overlooking from above, it is like a dragon soaring amidst a vibrant forest. It is very spectacular.
A fairy tale world, returning to nature—Hemu Village
Beside the beautiful Kanas Lake lies a delicate mountain village—Hemu Village. Just like its name, this village is dotted with characteristic wooden houses piled up with logs. Surrounded by birch forests, with the lively Hemu River winding through the village, it forms a picturesque scene like a poem. The starry night sky and the surrounding birch forests seem to bring a mysterious and serene atmosphere to this ancient village. A tranquil and far-reaching calmness and ease seem to be cultivated during the journey.
The fantastic and bizarre world is not far from us – Colorful Beach
The rock layers here are composed of red, earthy red, light yellow, and light green sandstone, mudstone, and conglomerate. The rocks have various colors, colorful and dazzling. These bizarre colors, illuminated by the sunshine at sunset, come at you from all directions, appearing so delicate and charming. It truly deserves to be called the most beautiful Yardang landform in Xinjiang.
Perhaps there was really a "devil king" here once – the magnificent Devil City
The masterpiece of wind erosion landforms, [Urho Magic City], how can one imagine that this place was once a lake? The amazing workmanship of nature and the beauty of desolation coexist here. The strangely shaped rock layers seem to really be telling us that there was once a devil king here. Passing through the Karamay 100-mile oilfield extraction area, countless "pump jacks" are busy moving up and down, like pulsating pulses, so full of vitality.
Precautions
1. For traveling to Kanas, only Baikhaba requires a border defense certificate. Border defense certificates can be processed at your household registration location, Kashgar, Burqin, or directly at the Kanas scenic area with your ID.
2. Food prices within the scenic area are very expensive, and if you ride a horse through Hemu, it will be even more difficult to purchase food. So try to stock up in Burqin. The ultraviolet rays in Xinjiang are intense, and the climate is dry, so be sure to prepare enough sunscreen and pay attention to moisturizing.
3. The diurnal temperature variation in the Kanas area is very large, with temperatures even dropping below zero in the morning and reaching up to 27°C during the strongest midday sunshine. Therefore, when watching the dawn, be sure to stay warm. It’s better to bring along a down jacket, hat, gloves, and sweaters. During the day when playing in the scenic area, you can wear a thin long-sleeved shirt with an outer jacket; just take off the jacket when it’s hot. It is not recommended to wear short sleeves to avoid sunburn.
4. Hemu has many horse teams, and you can often encounter horses galloping, kicking up a lot of dust. It is recommended to wear a mask. In addition, bring along some insect repellent, stomach medicine, and other commonly used medications just in case.
5. The dry climate of Xinjiang, coupled with the hot diet of mutton and chili peppers, can easily cause nosebleeds. Dry and cracked skin and lips are also severe issues, so be sure to bring various protective products.
Best Time to Visit Kanas
Best Seasons: June and September are the best. The flower sea in June and the golden autumn in September are Kanas’ hallmarks. In June, Kanas is brimming with spring vitality, with endless greenery making people reluctant to leave; after a short summer, Kanas welcomes its golden September, which can be described as a forest painted in layers of colors.
Winter in Kanas, with the lake frozen, is equally fascinating. Kanas has launched a winter tourism program (October 10th – May 10th of the next year), which not only waives some ticket fees but also allows visitors to experience a "horse-drawn sledge". Every winter, there is also a Winter Photography Tourism Festival.
