One-day tour of Karakul Lake in Kashgar

For early pickups arriving in Kashgar by plane or train before 10:00 am, process the travel permit and head to Karakul Lake, which means ‘Black Sea’. Along the way, visit Uyghur farmlands and countryside scenery, and experience the tranquility of Jiangnan (south of the Great Wall) at the edge of the desert. You will see the Aytak Red Mountain, known as the Flame Mountain of Southern Xinjiang, and take photos in front of the Baisha River, known as the Quicksand River, and the布伦口 White Sand Mountain, a marvel of nature. Along the route, you will also see ancient post stations of the Silk Road. Uncover the complex of the Pamir Plateau. The Subashi grassland by the lake is lush with water and grass, and flocks of sheep and cattle graze there. There are Tajik yurts and wooden houses, as well as designated mountain climbing campsites. From afar, you can see Mount Muztagh Ata, known as the ‘Father of Ice Mountains’. It stands tall and majestic on the Pamir Plateau, with its peak piercing the clouds and overlooking the sky. The snow on its top does not melt all year round. And Kongur Tobe Mountain – Kongur Tobe Peak is the second highest peak in the West Kunlun Mountains. Due to the permanent snow on the mountain, it resembles a hat worn by herdsmen, so local herdsmen call it ‘Kongur Tobe’, meaning ‘white hat’. The three majestic ice peaks (Kongur Peak, Kongur Tobe Peak, and Muztagh Ata Peak) – the world-famous Muztagh Ata Peak (7546M) overlooks Karakul Lake, meaning ‘Black Sea’, at an altitude of 3600 meters. It is a glacial erosion and moraine lake spanning over ten square kilometers. Karakul Lake reflects the majestic and mysterious Muztagh Ata Peak, with snow-capped mountains and water sharing the same color, creating a breathtaking scene. Return to Kashgar at 8:00 pm.
