In a broader sense, the Western Regions refer to all areas accessible through the narrow sense of the Western Regions, including today’s Central Asia, West Asia, and India. Since the Anshi Rebellion in the 8th century during the Tang Dynasty, the Western Regions have been separated from the rule of the Central Plains dynasties. It was not until more than 1,000 years later, when the Qing Dynasty pacified the Dzungar Khanate, that the Western Regions once again returned to the rule of the Central Plains dynasties. The New Oriental Express underwent a complete upgrade in 2020. Compared to the original New Oriental Express carriages, the new carriages have significantly improved sealing, stability, and shock absorption, and are equipped with extra-large glass scenic windows. The train boasts the country’s first shower compartments with dry and wet separation, adopting advanced partition material design and exclusively using ceramic toilets throughout the train. Each room has an air volume adjustment switch, and each bedside in the compartment is equipped with a 5-pin socket for computer and mobile phone charging with USB interfaces. The train has undergone formaldehyde removal and meets the standards.
The New Oriental Express is currently China’s premium luxury tourist train. The hardware configuration, dining service, and quality of service personnel on board are comparable to that of star hotels. The accommodation carriages include the Silk Road Tianshan Prestige Compartment and Blue Diamond Series Compartment, both equipped with complete bathroom facilities. Each Golden Diamond carriage is equipped with 4 VIP suites, with a maximum capacity of 2 people per suite and 8 people per carriage, making it suitable for families and couples. Each VIP suite covers an area of about 10 square meters, equipped with extra-large scenic windows, brand-name mattresses (1.5M*2M), desks, wardrobes, safes, and separate dry and wet shower restrooms. Each room in the Golden Diamond suite comes with a safe, where valuables can be stored when leaving the train.

Each Blue Diamond carriage consists of 7 soft sleeper compartments, accommodating up to 28 passengers. Generally, it is recommended for 2 people, but if you have friends or family traveling with you, you can allow up to 4 people to stay without sharing with unfamiliar guests. The compartments are equipped with extra-wide lower beds (0.9M*1.95M) and upper beds (0.7M*1.82M) with damping devices that can be folded up and attached to the wall. There are public bathrooms, one shower room, and a dressing room at both ends of the carriage.

Each presidential carriage has 2 separate presidential rooms (shared dry and wet separated bathroom for 2 people), 1 executive twin room (with a separate vanity, can also accommodate 4 people with bunk beds), and 2 quadruple rooms (shared public vanity). The entire carriage has private bathrooms, showers, refrigerators, conference rooms, small KTV, pantry, etc. The entire train is equipped with luxury bar entertainment carriages and Chinese-style music dining carriages, with professional chefs and meals included throughout the journey, providing a high-end VIP travel experience. Suitable for group tours, company annual meetings, small gatherings, mobile business, family reunions, and other customized travel activities.
Presidential Carriage Conference Room:
Dimensions are 4.474m*2.8m, equipped with a three-person sofa, single sofa, coffee table, armchair, extendable conference table, refrigerator, combination audio cabinet, large-screen TV, and other facilities.
Each carriage is equipped with a public mini-fridge. Additionally, the rooms are equipped with soundproof panels, independent audio systems, light adjustments, and a butler service bell. Each sleeping carriage has a dedicated butler to serve you, and mineral water and hot tea are provided in the room.
Laundry services are also available on the train (additional fees apply), solving the problem of changing and washing clothes during the journey. VIPs who need this service can obtain a laundry form from the butler, fill it out, and hand over the clothes to be washed. The cleaned clothes will be returned to the VIP’s compartment.
The New Oriental Express is equipped with approximately 50 staff and service personnel. Each sleeping carriage has a butler to assist VIPs with all matters on the train, big or small. Hot water is available 24 hours a day in the showers inside the sleeping carriages, allowing you to enjoy a comfortable shower anytime on the train.
