The World of Blue Bays—Keketohai
This place is not only the "cold pole" of Xinjiang, but also one of the rare "Hometown of Gemstones" in China, and also a rare "Natural Mineral Exhibition Hall" in the world. Along the way, visit Wild Duck Lake – Kekesuli, and arrive at the famous Irtysh River Grand Canyon. These geological heritages have rare and precious values in the world, forming a dazzling landscape on the mysterious tourist route around the Junggar Basin in Xinjiang. Take an electric cart to enjoy attractions such as the Rich Turtle Stone, Birch Forest, Couple Tree, and Stone Gate along the way, and visit the famous landmark of Keketohai—the God’s Bell Mountain.
Known as the "Little Switzerland of the East"—Pure Fairyland [Kanas]
If you come to Xinjiang for a trip, you must come to Kanas to take a look. The recovery of all things in spring, the fiery passion in summer, the absolute romance in autumn, and the purity in winter. Everywhere seems to be telling the story of the beautiful scenery of Kanas. The morning of "Shenxian Bay" is like a layer of milky white mist gently floating and rising, creating a hazy fairyland-like atmosphere. The "Moon Bay", a popular photo spot, is full of mysterious charm under different light. Climb up to the highest point of Kanas Lake—the Fish Viewing Pavilion, overlooking the panoramic view of Kanas Lake. Looking north, you can see the glittering Friendship Peak Glacier under the sunshine, and looking south, you can see the Kanas River winding like a green ribbon among the towering mountains. Looking west, you can see the vast green grasslands.
Kanas—Wolong Bay
There is a winding sandy shoal in the middle of the lake here, looking like a dragon coiled in it. The entire Wolong Bay winds through the lush and beautiful primitive forest. From a high vantage point, it looks like a huge dragon soaring in a vibrant forest. It is very spectacular.
A fairy-tale world, returning to nature—Hemu Village
By the beautiful Kanas Lake, there is a delicate mountain village—Hemu Village. Just like the name of the village, there are characteristic wooden houses piled up with logs. Birch forests surround the village, and the clever Hemu River flows around it. They complement each other like a poem and a painting. The starry sky at night and the surrounding birch forests seem to bring a mysterious and peaceful touch to this ancient village. A kind of calmness and composure seem to be practiced during the trip.
The fantastic and bizarre world is not far from us – Colorful Beach
The rock formations here are composed of red, earthy red, light yellow, and light green sandstone, mudstone, and conglomerate. The rocks have various colors and are colorful. These bizarre colors, illuminated by the sunshine at sunset, come at you from all directions, appearing so delicate and charming. It truly deserves to be called the most beautiful Yadan landform in Xinjiang.
Perhaps there was really a "demon king" here once – the magnificent Devil City
The masterpiece of wind erosion landforms, [Wuerhe Devil City], how could one imagine that this place was once a lake? The magnificent work of nature and the beauty of desolation coexist here. The strangely shaped rock layers seem to really tell us that there was once a demon king here. The passing Karamay 100-mile oilfield production area is bustling with countless "pumping jacks" moving up and down, like pulsating pulses, so full of vitality.
Precautions
1. For travel to Kanas, only Baikhaba requires a border defense certificate. Border defense certificates can be obtained at your household registration location, Kashgar, Burqin, or directly at the Kanas scenic area with your ID.
2. Food prices within the scenic area are very expensive, and if you ride a horse through Hemu, it will be even more difficult to purchase food. Therefore, try to purchase sufficient supplies in Burqin. The ultraviolet rays in Xinjiang are intense, and the climate is dry, so be sure to prepare enough sunscreen and pay attention to moisturizing.
3. The diurnal temperature variation in Kanas is very large, with temperatures dropping to below zero in the morning and reaching up to 27°C during the strongest sunshine at noon. Therefore, when watching the sunrise, make sure to stay warm. It is better to bring down jackets, hats, gloves, sweaters, etc. During the day when playing in the scenic area, you can wear a thin long-sleeved shirt with a jacket. When it gets hot, just take off the jacket. It is not recommended to wear short sleeves to avoid sunburn.
4. Hemu has many horse teams, and it is common to encounter horses galloping, kicking up a lot of dust. It is recommended to wear a mask. In addition, bring some insect repellent, stomach medicine, and other commonly used medications for emergencies.
5. Due to the dry climate in Xinjiang, coupled with the hot food such as mutton and chili peppers, nosebleeds are easy to occur. Skin and lip chap are also severe, so it is necessary to bring various protective products.
Best Time to Visit Kanas
Best Seasons: June and September are the best. The sea of flowers in June and the golden autumn in September are Kanas’ hallmarks. In June, Kanas is full of spring vitality, with endless greenery that makes people reluctant to leave. After a short summer, Kanas welcomes its golden September, with forests painted in layers of colors.
Winter in Kanas, with the lake frozen, is equally fascinating. Kanas has launched a winter tourism program (October 10th – May 10th of the following year), which not only exempts some tickets but also allows visitors to experience riding in a "horse-drawn sleigh". Every winter, there is also a Winter Photography Tourism Festival.
