Northern Xinjiang refers to the northern part of Xinjiang. The Tianshan Mountains divide Xinjiang into two major parts, with the area north of the Tianshan Mountains being called Northern Xinjiang. It includes regions such as Urumqi, Karamay, Altay Prefecture, Tacheng Prefecture, Changji, Shihezi, Beitun, Kekedala, Ili, Bortala, and others.
Main attractions are as follows:
1. Grape Valley: Named after its abundant grapes, it is a tourist attraction in Turpan City, Xinjiang. On May 8, 2007, Turpan Grape Valley Scenic Area was officially approved by the China National Tourism Administration as a National AAAAA-level tourist attraction.
2. Tianshan Tianchi: Anciently known as "Yaochi", it is located in the middle of the northern slope of Bogda Peak, Fukang City, Changji Hui Autonomous Prefecture, Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. It is a natural scenic area centered around a high-mountain lake, 97 kilometers away from Urumqi City.
3. Kanas Lake: National AAAAA-level tourist attraction, National Geopark, National Forest Park, Chinese Nature Reserve, National Natural Heritage, National Low-carbon Tourism Experimental Zone, China’s Most Beautiful Lake.
4. Flaming Mountain: The most famous attraction in Turpan. It is located on the northern edge of the Turpan Basin, on the Northern Silk Road, mainly composed of Mesozoic Jurassic, Cretaceous, and Tertiary red sand, conglomerate, and mudstone. Locals call it "Keziletag", meaning "Red Mountain".
5. Shanshan National Desert Park: It is part of the Kumtag Desert and is the desert closest to a city in the world.
Northern Xinjiang’s famous scenic spots include 5A-level: Changji Tianshan Tianchi Scenic Area, Altay Kanas Scenic Area, Ili Nalati Grassland Tourist Area; 4A-level: Chabuchar Xibo Folk Customs Park, Urumqi West Hill Laojun Temple, No. 5 Division of Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps Monster Rock Valley Scenic Area, Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region Museum, Changji Du’s Tourism Resort, Shihezi Corps Junken Museum, Urumqi Shuimogou Scenic Area, Urumqi Hongshan Park, Xinjiang Folk Street, Urumqi Salt Lake Ecological Tourism Area, Urumqi County Alfalfa Platform Ecological Park, Bozhou Sayram Lake Scenic Area, Karamay Urho World Devil City Scenic Area, Koktokay National Geopark.
