Xinjiang Travel Guide: October Photography Tour of Southern and Northern Xinjiang

According to China’s topographical division, Xinjiang belongs to the second tier, similar to Gansu, Shaanxi, Yunnan, Guizhou, and other regions, so there is no need to worry about altitude sickness. Unless you go to individual high mountain peak areas, basically there is no need to worry about altitude sickness.

Xinjiang – China’s largest autonomous region (province), occupying one-sixth of China’s total land area. Xinjiang’s terrain is also metaphorically called ‘three mountains sandwiching two basins’. The Altai Mountains are in the north, the Kunlun Mountains in the south; and the Tianshan Mountains are located in the middle. Meanwhile, what we habitually refer to as Southern Xinjiang and Northern Xinjiang are actually differentiated by the Tianshan Mountains in the middle as the boundary.

There are two common ways to travel in Xinjiang:

The first method is to travel with a tour group. The advantages include no need to worry and lower costs, but the disadvantages are rigid itineraries, with many small scenic spots along the way unable to be freely stopped at for appreciation, and shorter stays at scenic areas.

The second common travel method among most backpackers is to freely form groups and rent vehicles such as SUVs or business vans for tourism. Nowadays, most roads are in good condition, and business vans are fully capable in all regions except for a few specific areas!

Ps: In recent years, a new semi-self-help travel method has emerged, also known as outdoor travel clubs. The editor is the leader of an outdoor travel club.

Every holiday, I head to the northwest of the motherland, which always brings me different surprises. The final destination of my northwest trip really lived up to expectations. As the grand finale, it amazed me every day. Our beautiful motherland is truly vast in territory and abundant in resources. Before I have the ability to travel around the world, I really should first see the great rivers and mountains of the motherland.
