Everyone has a Xinjiang dream in their heart, sooner or later, you will all set foot on this land. If this is your first time to Xinjiang, we recommend the Northern Xinjiang, because the visual impact brought by the scenery here can only be understood by those who have been here. Everyone on a trip to Northern Xinjiang will recommend Yili and Kanas. If time is limited and you can only choose one, Tuge recommends: visit Yili in summer and Kanas in autumn.
Autumn is coming, and the beautiful colors of Kanas during its most charming season will soon unfold, intense and unrestrained, making people burst into tears of joy at every moment… Today, let’s talk in detail about how to fully enjoy Kanas!
▍▍Brief Introduction to Kanas
Kanas generally refers to the Altay scenic area in Xinjiang represented by ‘Kanas + Baihaba + Hemu’. In summer, the snow-capped spruces are lush and green all over the mountains in Kanas, and the emerald-green lake extends far away like a huge ribbon.
When it comes to September to October, the colors here, after a year of accumulation, present a mesmerizing appearance. The forest and grassland gradually change colors, and the entire Kanas resembles a Monet painting with colorful forests, thus becoming synonymous with ‘beautiful autumn scenery’.
Jiadenyu
Jiadenyu is considered the first stop to arrive at Kanas, guarding the entrance and exit of Kanas. It mainly serves as a parking area and a dining and accommodation area for tourists.
Take the shuttle bus from Jiadenyu to enter the scenic area and arrive at the Kanas Transfer Center (buses depart every hour from 8:00 to 19:30, 90 yuan round trip, about a 50-minute ride).
We went in late June and stayed near the Sun Castle in Jiadenyu at night. We found that there are actually dandelion fields everywhere and villa-style accommodation houses here. It is truly a beautiful净土 beyond the scenic area.
Kanas
A national 5A scenic area (one-entry ticket 160 yuan + shuttle bus 60 yuan, two-entry ticket 160 yuan + shuttle bus 110 yuan), the location of Kanas Lake.
After entering the scenic area, transfer to your destination at the Transfer Center. You can transfer here to go to Fish Viewing Terrace (ticket 20 yuan), the lakeside (‘Three Bays’ in the scenic area in order: Wolong Bay, Moon Bay, and Shenxian Bay), Kanas New Village, Baihaba Village, and other shuttle bus routes.
Baihaba
Known as the First Village and the First Outpost in Northwest China, it is one of China’s eight small towns located on the border between China and Kazakhstan within the Kanas Scenic Area.
If you want to go to Baihaba, you need to purchase an additional entrance ticket and shuttle bus ticket at the Kanas Transfer Center (entrance ticket 30 yuan + shuttle bus 45 yuan).
Hemu
An independent scenic area about a 50-minute drive from Kanas Scenic Area, known as ‘God’s Private Reserve’. You need to take the shuttle bus from Jiadenyu to get there, or you can drive there yourself.
The entrance ticket and shuttle bus ticket for Hemu Scenic Area (entrance ticket 50 yuan + shuttle bus 52 yuan). After arriving at the scenic area, you need to transfer to the village shuttle bus (small circular bus) to reach the village.
Tips:
1. During the peak season, the standard rooms in Jiadenyu hotels and Kanas (Hemu) cabins cost between 600-800 yuan, and the standard rooms in Jiadenyu’s four-star hotels are about 800 yuan;
3. Climbing up to Kanas Fish Viewing Terrace requires ascending 1068 steps. The elderly and children should plan according to their physical condition whether to go;
4. The temperature in the mountains of Xinjiang is typically described as ‘wearing a fur coat in the morning and a gauze dress in the afternoon, eating watermelon around the stove’. The appearance of the hotels in Jiadenyu is very beautiful, but the internal accommodation environment is average and it gets colder at night. Please be mentally prepared and be sure to bring a thick coat (a thin down jacket is recommended starting from October)!
