Kashgar Prefecture boasts multiple beautiful tourist lakes, the most famous of which include Karakul Lake and Kashgar Baisha Lake.
Karakul Lake: This lake is located on the Pamir Plateau in Aktau County, adjacent to布伦库勒 Lake. Karakul Lake has an altitude of up to 3,600 meters, an area of about 10 square kilometers, and a depth of over 30 meters. The lake is deep and dark, hence its name "Karakul" (meaning black lake in Kyrgyz). It is renowned for its beautiful scenery and abundant biological resources and is a must-visit tourist attraction in Kashgar Prefecture.
Kashgar Baisha Lake: Baisha Lake is located in the southeast of Tashkurgan Tajik Autonomous County, Kashgar Prefecture, Xinjiang, adjacent to National Highway 314 and about 200 kilometers from Kashgar city. Baisha Lake is a typical alpine lake with an altitude of about 3,660 meters and an area of about 20 square kilometers. It is located on the eastern edge of the Pamir Plateau with unique landforms and is a moraine lake formed by glacial action. Surrounded by undulating white sand dunes, Baisha Lake boasts crystal-clear water that shimmers in the sunlight, forming a breathtaking picture. In addition, Baisha Lake carries rich cultural connotations and is a sacred place in the hearts of the Tajik people as well as an important stop on the Silk Road.
