I. Best Travel Season The Kanas area has a continental northern temperate cool climate with dry and hot summers, severely cold winters, low precipitation, high evaporation, large diurnal temperature variation, and abundant sunshine. Generally, the best season to travel here is from June to the end of the National Day Golden Week each year. (From around September 15th to October 10th, autumn in Kanas is especially beautiful)
II. Consumption Level at Scenic Spots There is Kanas Village Resort in Kanas Lake area for accommodation, and cheaper yurts for tourists to choose from. Food is slightly more expensive than in other border cities, costing about 50 yuan per person. Transportation remains the main expense during the trip, and the chartered car costs to major scenic spots are not low, starting at 50 yuan. It is recommended to consider staying outside the scenic area for accommodation. Within the scenic area, you can choose to stay in Baihaba Village. The conditions may not be as good as mainland hotels, and the prices are relatively higher.
More consumption may be related to the tourist season. During the National Day holiday in autumn, it should be the peak season with higher accommodation and catering costs.
III. Self-driving Travel Tips Self-driving tourists can enter the park from 6:30 to 18:00. Vehicles with 7 seats or less are allowed to enter the scenic area. Taxis, yellow-label vehicles, and illegally operated vehicles are not allowed to enter. After driving into the Lower Lake area, self-driving vehicles should park uniformly at the small parking lot of the transfer center.
IV. Local Indigenous People The Tuvas are the majority. There are only more than two thousand Tuvas in China, mainly distributed in Kanas Village, Hemu Township, and Baihaba Village. Among them, Kanas Village has the largest population.
V. Travel Tips Kanas is located in the high-latitude inland area with an extremely large diurnal temperature variation, exceeding 20℃ every day. The saying “wearing a fur coat in the morning and a gauze shirt in the afternoon” describes this situation. Therefore, even if you are traveling in summer, you should prepare some clothes with good insulation to avoid catching a cold in the morning and evening. Trekking in Kanas is a close encounter with nature. Self-driving vehicles enter the scenic area through the tourist passage. Please strictly abide by the speed limit regulations within the scenic area and watch out for sightseeing buses.
