On May 16, 2021, the premiere of the large-scale live-action musical "The Pact of Kunlun" took place. Although the Nanshan Valley in May was still cold, it couldn’t stop us from keeping our appointment. Based on the classics such as "The Classic of Mountains and Seas" and "The Travels of Emperor Mu," "The Pact of Kunlun" unfolds through five acts: "The Pact of Kunlun," "Dream as a Horse," "Promise as a Chariot," "Heart as a Wheel," and "Harmony of Heaven and Earth." It tells the story of King Mu of Zhou, Ji Man, fulfilling the pact made by his ancestor, Emperor Huangdi, with the Goddess of Kunlun, the Queen Mother of the West. With a vow to exchange hearts, he traveled thousands of miles to the Western Regions, enduring countless hardships, and finally fulfilled his pact with the Queen Mother of the West at Kunlun, sounding the harmonious chime of metal and jade, and winning the loyalty of the people throughout the land. The Western Zhou Dynasty was a very important period in Chinese history, with a high level of civilization and continuous integration of nations and tribes, leading to the gradual formation of the Huaxia people. "The beauty of clothing and decorations is called Hua; the grandeur of rites and ceremonies is called Xia." With the rise of the Western Zhou Dynasty, various small states attached themselves to it, forming the convergence of Huaxia civilization. King Mu of Zhou’s westward journey was fraught with peril, facing countless trials and tribulations such as blizzards, infernos, and the daughters’ tribe. He kept his promise and, with unwavering perseverance, transcended life and death and time, depicting a magnificent epic of the long-standing exchanges, interactions, and integrations between the people of the mainland and the border areas, as well as their mutual support and unity in endeavor.
