Kanas, Xinjiang
Browsing through the beautiful autumn scenery of China, when scenes of Xinjiang’s Tianshan Mountains, Colorful Beach, Keketuohai, Kanas, Baihaba, Hemu Village, Ghost City, Populus euphratica Forest, snowy mountains, grasslands, forests, lakes, rivers, wooden cabins, Tuvans, livestock herding, herdsmen, yurts, hand-grabbed meat, sunsets, starry skies, plateaus, deserts, gobies, Yardangs, beautiful women, music, dances, and cuisine… come into view, it is impossible to suppress the impulse within. That’s right, only by visiting Kanas can one truly appreciate the essence of autumn scenery.
September and October are the best seasons to visit Kanas. Capture the dazzling moments before the first snowfall. The beauty of Xinjiang is rugged yet charming. Kanas’ azure sky, ever-changing lake water, tall poplars, beautiful birch forests, golden leaves, and vibrant colors, coupled with the Tuwa people’s wooden cabins, fences, cattle, sheep, horses, and places with charming names such as Wolongwan, Moon Bay, and Shenxianwan, are sufficient to fulfill your definition of autumn.
It is not an exaggeration to say that the autumn scenery of Kanas is breathtaking. When you press the shutter, many people will be awestruck by the magnificent work of nature. There are various colors loved by photographers here. Even if you are a beginner or casual photographer, every snapshot will become a stunning masterpiece.
A godself-reserved plot – Hemu
Hemu Village in Xinjiang is located in an intermountain graben basin at the confluence of the Kanas River and the Hemu River, and is the northernmost township in western China. It is the concentrated residence of the Tuwa people and one of the only three Tuwa villages remaining (Hemu Village, Kanas Village, and Bahaba Village).
Hemu Village is famous for its colorful and intoxicating autumn scenery. Chimney smoke rises gradually among the autumn foliage, forming a dreamlike band of mist, resembling a fairyland.
In the morning, on the observation deck of Hemu Village, you can enjoy a distant view of the sunrise, snow-capped peaks, and trickling streams, while taking in a close-up view of the Tuwa people’s homes. The sunrise, morning fog, wooden cabins, and the Hemu River constitute a charming fairy tale world.
The most beautiful season in Hemu is from mid-September to early October each year. Due to latitude and altitude, autumn arrives here earlier than in the hinterland. In mid-autumn, the forests are dyed in vibrant colors, creating a dazzling spectacle. No matter where you look, you will see a warm and bright golden yellow – rivers, wooden houses, chimney smoke, birch forests, and distant snow-capped mountains. This constitutes a paradise for photographers in mid-autumn.
Baisha Lake
The scenery of Baisha Lake is very unique. In June, lotus flowers bloom in the lake, with wild ducks swimming among them. In mid-autumn October, the red and yellow leaves flutter in the wind. The green water in the lake is as clear as a mirror, reflecting the mountains. The lake and mountains complement each other, offering breathtaking views from both afar and nearby. The sandy ground exudes a faint aroma of earth under the sunshine, intoxicating people. The golden Mingsha Mountain in the distance is reflected in the green lake water, while the lakeside and mixed forests add layers of beauty, creating a perfect natural bonsai landscape for visitors. It is known as the ‘Little Jiangnan of the Northern Frontier’ (free admission under the latest policy).
The most breathtaking moments at the Colorful Beach and Wuerhe Devil City are at dusk. The sunset adds an air of mystery to the colorful beach, while the Devil City bathed in the afterglow of the setting sun (fire clouds) is definitely a scene worth capturing… These stunning and magnificent wonders can only be perfectly captured at the right time and angle. Our photography guide will arrange for the best sunset timing to enter the scenic area, capturing the breathtaking beauty under the setting sun, ensuring that your trip to Xinjiang leaves no regrets.
