Korla, the capital of Bayingolin Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture in Xinjiang, is located in central Xinjiang, at the southern foot of the Tianshan Mountains and on the northeastern edge of the Tarim Basin. It leans against a branch of the Tianshan Mountains to the north and borders the world’s second-largest desert, the Taklamakan Desert, to the south. Korla serves as a throat of the ancient Silk Road and one of the birthplaces of Western Regions culture. It is an important transportation hub and material distribution center for northern and southern Xinjiang, as well as a significant political, economic, and cultural center in the region.

Introduction to Lop Nur Village: Lop Nur Village is located on the banks of the Tarim River in Dunketan Township, Yuli County, on the northeastern edge of the Tarim Basin in Xinjiang. The scenic area is 35 kilometers from Yuli County and 85 kilometers from Korla City, the capital of Bayingolin Prefecture, covering a total area of 72 square kilometers. With Lop culture as its soul, ecological construction as its foundation, comprehensive resource development as its goal, and folklore and adventure tourism as its features, it is a tourist area integrating deserts, poplar forests, rivers, and lakes, showcasing diverse natural scenery and beautiful ecological environments. The vast Taklamakan Desert, China’s largest desert, lies to the south of the scenic area, undulating endlessly and surging. Ride the "boat of the desert" into the depths of the sand sea, enjoy the desert scenery, listen to the lingering sound of camel bells, and feel a sense of tranquility and contentment. Here, there are various shapes of primitive poplar forests, where the Tarim River and the Weigan River intersect, and the endless Taklamakan Desert stretches out. Anciently known as "Western Sea," and as "Fish Sea" during the Tang Dynasty, it was named Bosten Lake in the mid-Qing Dynasty. Located in the southeast of the Yanqi Basin within the territory of Bohu County, it is China’s large inland freshwater lake with inflow and outflow. Bosten Nuur, meaning "standing" in Mongolian, is named for the three mountain peaks standing in the lake. Bosten Lake is 14 kilometers from Bohu County and 24 kilometers from Yanqi County. Tiemen Pass
Tiemen Pass is located 8 kilometers north of Korla City, guarding the exit of the steep gorge upstream of the Kongque River. It was once a strategically important pass for north-south traffic and the throat of the ancient Silk Road. A pass was established here during the Jin Dynasty, and due to its strategic location and fortification, it was named "Tiemen Pass" (Iron Gate Pass).
Tarim Poplar
After 2003, drip irrigation was adopted, and a 436-kilometer-long desert highway shelterbelt ecological project was initiated, covering an area of over 30 square kilometers, known as the "Green Great Wall" of the desert. The northern part of the tourist area is the Lunnan Oilfield scenic spot. In the middle is the Tarim Poplar Forest Park, located on the east side of the Luntai Desert Highway at kilometer 79, covering an area of over 100 square kilometers, adjacent to the Poplar Forest Nature Reserve in the south. The Kongque River is an important water system that feeds Lop Nur and nourishes Loulan. Two thousand years ago, the ancient city of Loulan, known as the "Eastern Pompeii," flourished due to the inflow of the Kongque River and the Tarim River.
Korla Swan Lake
Swan Lake is situated in the Zhuletusi mountainous basin of the Bayanbulak Grasslands, at an altitude of 2,000-2,500 meters. It is a high-altitude lake stretching 30 kilometers east to west and 10 kilometers north to south, covering an area of over 300 square kilometers. Approved as a national-level swan nature reserve in 1986, the continuous snow-capped mountains and towering ice peaks form a natural barrier for Swan Lake.
Altun Mountains
The Altun Mountains Nature Reserve is located within the Ruoqiang County, in the middle section of the Altun Mountain range at the Xinjiang-Tibet border. With an altitude of approximately 4,000 meters and an area of around 45,000 square kilometers, it is one of China’s large alpine nature reserves.
