2. Daxigou Zhonghua Fushou Mountain Scenic Area AAAA
The Zhonghua Fushou Mountain Tourist Area is located in Daxigou Township, Huocheng County, Ili Prefecture. It is a harmonious paradise for humans and nature, a blessed place for health and vacation. It is a comprehensive tourist area that integrates ecological appreciation, cultural experience, leisure and vacation, self-cultivation, science popularization, and exploration. With Tianshan pine waves, alpine meadows, exotic trees and herbs, and sleeping Buddha temples, natural landscapes are accompanied by profound and diverse civilizations.
3. Karajun World Ecotourism Zone AAAA
The Karajun Primitive Grassland Scenic Area is located 56 kilometers southeast of the ancient historical and cultural city of Bagua, 175 kilometers from Yining City. It is an important part of the Ili Prefecture’s major tourism route. It is 89 kilometers long from east to west and 32 kilometers wide from north to south, with a total area of 2,848 square kilometers and an altitude between 2,000 and 3,600 meters. It borders the Dagenbiele Mountains to the south and overlooks the snow-capped peaks of the Hakel Mountains and the Qiongkushitai Grassland to the north. The Kurdai River Grand Canyon winds nearly 100 kilometers from east to west, forming a natural green barrier between the Karajun Grassland and the Qiongkushitai Grassland. Karajun is a summer pasture for Kazakh herdsmen, with 104 species of natural high-quality forage grass. It is a typical "alpine five-flower natural meadow" grassland and has been called by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization as "a rare natural high-quality grassland in the world".
4. Gongliu Wild Walnut Valley
The Wild Walnut Valley Scenic Area [1] is located 13 kilometers east of Gongliu County Town. It is the location of the ***4A scenic area and the autonomous region’s natural wild walnut reserve. It is named for the large area of rare, wild walnut forests that grow here, which are unique to China. Wild walnuts belong to the third period relics of species, rare in the world, only existing in Asia, and extremely cherished. The Wild Walnut Valley Tourism Ecological Park Scenic Area is located in the southeast of Gongliu County, Ili Kazak Autonomous Prefecture, on the Yishigelike Mountain. It is 3.2 kilometers long from east to west and 4.7 kilometers long from north to south, with a total area of 1,214 hectares. It is 12 kilometers away from the county town and is a regional-level natural reserve.
5. Wetland Ancient Poplar Scenic Area AAAA
The Wetland Ancient Poplar Scenic Area in Nileke County is 4 kilometers away from the county town, with a total area of 213,000 mu. Inside the scenic area, ancient trees tower into the sky, the air is fresh, and the varieties of wildlife and plants are very rich. It is the largest, best-preserved wetland ancient poplar scenic area in western China with the best ecological benefits.
6. Western Regions Tianma Culture Park Scenic Area AAAA
The Zhaosu Tianma Culture Park project is located on the Kalkant Grassland in Zhaosu, about 20 kilometers southwest of the county seat. It is built on the basis of the former Western Regions Horse Racing Ground, with a planning area extending east to the Dakalakande River, south to the Tekes River, and connecting with Provincial Highway S212 in the west and north. The total area is 50,000 mu, equivalent to about 33 square kilometers. The planned area is vast and the scenery is beautiful, with mountains and grasslands complementing each other. The Tianma horses, which have traveled to the west and soared over Kunlun, live and breed here. It is the best destination to understand Tianma culture.
7. Zhaosu Shengyou Temple
The Shengyou Temple is located in the northwest of Zhaosu County, Ili, by the Hongnahai River at the foot of the Tianshan Mountains. Inside the Shengyou Temple, towering ancient trees and dense pine and fir trees shield the sun. Stepping inside, one feels detached from the mundane world. Looking along the central axis, eight buildings are well-arranged and symmetrically laid out. Besides the screen wall, the mountain gate, the front hall, the main hall, and the rear hall built along the central axis, there are also hard-roofed side halls and octagonal double-story and double-eaves pavilions on the left and right. The main building of the Shengyou Temple is 17 meters wide and has seven bays, with a square plan. It has a large mast, high eaves, a steep roof, and four corners with eaves flying up like dragons diving into the sea. The eaves are supported by brackets, with multi-layered overhanging beams. The craftsmanship is precise, with gold-plated designs, carved beams and painted rafters, all resplendent and magnificent. The corridors supported by huge pillars are painted with precious birds and animals, fierce tigers and lions, golden deer and qilin, phoenixes and macaques, all in various poses. The main wall of the main hall is also painted with murals in traditional Chinese styles, such as two dragons playing with a pearl, phoenixes flying side by side, Jiang Ziya fishing, and Su Wu herding sheep, which are truly astonishing.
8. Yining County Tohulasu Grassland Scenic Area AAAA
The Tohulasu Grassland Scenic Area is located in the northern mountainous region of Yining County, 60 kilometers away from Yining City and only 40 kilometers away from the county seat. It is an important summer pasture for Yining County. In spring and summer, there are layers of pine forests and rolling mountains here. 9. Huocheng Huiyuan City
Historically, Ili was an important passage for Xinjiang to connect with Central Asia. In the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, to strengthen the administration in the Ili area, the Emperor set up the General of Ili and built Huiyuan City, as well as eight satellite cities around it successively, collectively known as the ‘Nine Cities of Ili’. The best-preserved one is Huiyuan City, known as the first of the ‘Nine Cities of Ili’, where the site of the General’s Mansion is still preserved. In the center of the ancient city of Huiyuan stands a magnificent bell and drum tower. From the tower, one can overlook the scenery inside and outside the city. Lin Zexu once led the people here to register for water conservancy projects and was respected by the General of Ili and people of all ethnic groups.
10. Gongliu Kuerdening Scenic Area
The Kuerdening Scenic Area is located in the eastern mountainous region of Gongliu County, 86 kilometers away from the county seat. The elevation of the valley bottom is uniformly 1500 meters. The commonality is that most mountain valleys follow the mountain’s contour, but this wide valley runs parallel to the snowy mountains. Kuerdening means a horizontal valley. Kuerdening is a famous scenic area and a popular summer resort.
