Kunlun Mountain, also known as Kunlun Xu, the First Sacred Mountain of China, the Ancestral Mountain of All, Kunlun Qiu, or Jade Mountain. It is a major mountain system in central Asia and the backbone of the mountain system in western China. Starting from the eastern Pamir Plateau, it stretches across Xinjiang and Tibet and extends into Qinghai, with a total length of about 2,500 kilometers, an average altitude of 5,500-6,000 meters, and a width of 130-200 kilometers. It is narrower in the west and wider in the east, covering a total area of over 500,000 square kilometers. Kunlun Mountain holds a prominent position as the ‘Ancestor of All Mountains’ in the cultural history of the Chinese nation, and ancients referred to Kunlun Mountain as the ‘Ancestor of the Dragon Pulse’ of China.
Searching for the Tribe of Golden Eagles
Falconry originated in the East and has a history of four thousand years. Inheriting the skills of falconry handed down from ancestors, a legend of harmonious coexistence between humans and falcons is unfolding on the snow-covered Koksar and Karatek mountains. While herding, they often ride horses to the tops of mountains as high as nearly 100 meters to release their domesticated falcons.
The golden eagle, belonging to the family of Accipitridae, is renowned for its distinctive appearance and agile and powerful flight; the average wingspan of an adult bird exceeds 2 meters, and its body length can reach 1 meter, with all its legs and claws covered in feathers.
Akqi County, located in the hinterland of the southern Tianshan Mountains in western Xinjiang, is situated in a cold mountainous region. To the north lies the southern range of the Tianshan Mountains, and to the south lies the Kala Teke Mountains, with the elongated Toshgan Valley in between. In the valley and foothill areas, water and grass are abundant during summer and autumn, providing plenty of food such as rabbits, mice, and even foxes for falcons. The Kyrgyz people who have lived here for generations and their falcons have found a paradise here.
Under the blue sky, vigilant, brave, tough, and intelligent are the eagles
Golden eagles in Xinjiang live in mountainous or hilly border areas, especially on cliffs in valleys and nesting on protrusions of mountain walls.
Falcon Training
Some falcon training methods seem simple but conform to scientific principles, so their success rate in training falcons is high. At the same time, it requires falconers to have good wrist and arm strength, be bold and meticulous, and have excellent riding skills. Falcons usually have a lifespan of around 40 years. For nomadic peoples on the grasslands, falcons are like family members, and falcon training techniques are passed down from one generation to the next. To train falcons well, herdsmen must start cultivating their relationship with falcons from a very young age, and the entire domestication process can only be completed by one person.
Desert Water Poplar Forest
The Lop Nur Village covers an area of 72 square kilometers and has more than 20 households, making it one of the largest villages in western China in terms of land area. It belongs to Qiongkule Ranch and is a secluded paradise inhabited by Lop people. The village area encompasses the Taklamakan Desert, wandering lakes, the Tarim River, primitive poplar forests, grasslands, and Lop people. The great desert, the longest inland river, the largest green corridor, and the Silk Road converge here, forming a natural landscape of gold quality.
The Tarim River in the Taklamakan Desert is the longest inland river in China. The middle and lower reaches of this river basin are areas where primitive poplar forests are relatively concentrated, preserving the largest area of primitive poplar forests in the world, covering an area of over 15 million mu.
Dalang Tribe
Dolang culture has always existed in folk form, mainly manifested in singing and dancing. Dolang singing and dancing are mostly centered around labor and love. Their singing and dancing are unrestrained and smooth, with lyrics that can be composed and sung on the spot. The Dolang people have brought this folk art out of the Gobi desert with their unique creative methods.
Mysterious Grand Canyon of Tianshan Mountain
Located in the north of Kuqa County, Aksu Prefecture, Xinjiang. In Uyghur, Keziliya means ‘red cliffs’, which is because the Grand Canyon is composed of reddish-brown giant mountain groups. The reddish-brown mountain groups of the Mysterious Grand Canyon of Tianshan Mountain pierce the sky, resembling clusters of burning flames under sunlight.
Shanshan Desert
The sandstorm landforms and landscape types in the Kumtag Desert of Shanshan are complete. The desert terrain includes sand nests, honeycomb-like sandy areas, flat sandy areas, wavy dune areas, fish-scale textured sandy slopes, and mixed desert-gobi areas. The dunes have clear contours and distinct layers; the dune ridge lines are smooth and flowing, with the windward sandy slopes resembling water and the leeward slopes flowing like sandfalls.
