　　[Purpose Introduction]​

　　Kanas is a Mongolian term meaning ‘beautiful and rich, mysterious’ or ‘lake in a峡谷’, and another interpretation is that Kanas means ‘water of the king’. During Genghis Khan’s expedition, his military advisor once fetched water from here, hence its name. The lake is at an altitude of 1,374 meters and covers an area of 44.78 square kilometers. It is a mountain lake nestled in the dense forests of the Altay Mountains, ten times larger than the famous Bogda Tian Chi. The deepest part of the lake reaches 196 meters, and it is the only Arctic Ocean watershed in China.​

　　Baihaba Village (Baihaba Scenic Area) is known as the First Village in the Northwest and the First Outpost in the Northwest. It is located in Tiereketi Township, Habahe County, Altay Prefecture, Xinjiang, on the China-Kazakhstan border, only 1.5 kilometers from East Silek, Kazakhstan, connected by a national defense highway. Baihaba Village is hailed as one of China’s eight most beautiful towns. The unique national costumes, religious beliefs, and customs of the Tuvans are also favored by more people. The village is situated in a valley, built on a narrow terrace between two streams, nestled against the mountain and by the water. All buildings in the village are made of logs, marked by quaint little wooden cabins, featuring European-style villages. The houses are uniformly pointed-roof wooden cabins, with walls and ceilings constructed and spliced from whole logs, and the roof supported by wooden planks to form a pointed ‘A’ shape to prevent rain and snow, ensuring the safety of the houses.​

　　Beside the beautiful Kanas Lake in Xinjiang, there lies a quaint mountain village—Hemo Village, which is known as the ‘First Village in China’. Hemo, full name ‘Hemo Kanas Township’, is located in Burqin County in northern Xinjiang, bordering Mongolia, Russia, and Kazakhstan.​
