Xinjiang Southern Xinjiang tourist route, recommended Southern Xinjiang route
Xinjiang’s geographical characteristics: Xinjiang is far away from the ocean and surrounded by high mountains, making it difficult for moisture to enter, thus forming a typical tropical continental climate. That is to say, in most areas of Xinjiang, the daily temperature difference throughout the year is very large, leading to the saying "wearing a cotton-padded jacket in the morning and a gauze shirt in the noon, eating watermelon around the stove". When traveling in Northern Xinjiang, different seasons have different kinds of beauty. At this time, the white birches and bright yellow pine trees in Northern Xinjiang are dazzling, with the sky and lake water being as green as if washed. The sky and earth are connected, like a colorful oil painting. It is also the season when fruits are fragrant, making it impossible for you to resist the fresh fruit aroma.
The Kanas Natural Landscape Reserve is located in the northwest of Burqin, deep in the mountains and dense forests at the northwest end of China’s Altai Mountains. It is a prominent attraction among the scenic and tourism resources of Altay and can be called the ‘Pearl of Altai Tourism’. This scenic area is a comprehensive forest nature reserve and is the only ‘enclave’ of European-Siberian taiga forests in China. The Kanas River is the main river within the reserve, running from northeast to southwest and flowing into the Burqin River. Due to intense glacial erosion, the Aksukol Lake and Kanas Lake, formed by the widening and deepening of mountain rivers, are like two huge mirrors embedded in a string in the central area of the Kanas Nature Reserve. They are alpine freshwater lakes. Kanas Lake is shaped like a crescent, 24 kilometers long from north to south and 1.6 to 2.9 kilometers wide from east to west, with an area of 44.78 square kilometers, which is ten times larger than the famous Bogda Heavenly Lake. The maximum depth of the lake is 188.5 meters. Except for the Baekdu Mountain Heavenly Lake (maximum depth of 312.7 meters) on the China-North Korea border, it is the deepest inland lake in China. The Kanas Lake is surrounded by mountains and peaks, with snow-capped peaks, dense forests, lush meadows, green hillsides, and shimmering waves on the lake surface. The mountains are reflected in the lake, blending the blue sky, white clouds, snowy peaks, green mountains, and clear water into one harmonious picture, creating breathtaking lake and mountain scenery.

Xinjiang is a magical and wonderful place, and traveling to Xinjiang is a dream for many people. Xinjiang is famous as the hometown of fruits and also the hometown of songs and dances. Traveling in Xinjiang means appreciating its beautiful scenery, winds, jade, and people. Understanding the Silk Road is essential for traveling in Xinjiang. Thousands of years ago, Chinese silk was transported into the Western Regions by caravan camels and then passed on to Rome. Due to the dangerous and remote journey, the amount of silk that reached ancient Rome was extremely limited, making it extremely expensive; one pound of silk was worth one pound of gold. Therefore, people called the trade route connecting West Asia and China, which traded silk, the ‘Silk Road’.
Xinjiang is divided into southern Xinjiang and northern Xinjiang. Southern Xinjiang mainly features ethnic customs, cultural landscapes, and historical relics. Popular tourist destinations include Kashgar, Hotan, Kuqa, Korla, and other places.
