"Our Xinjiang is a wonderful place, a wonderful place……" When it comes to Xinjiang, one cannot help but think of a mysterious and special place, Kanas. Once, the lake monster became its synonym, but few people have explored this magical place, which is a rare ‘pure land on earth’. Its beauty is beyond the capability of any skilled photographer to capture, and any casual photo taken here will elicit praise from those who see it.
Kanas possesses the magnificent scenery of the northern landscapes and the delicate beauty of southern landscapes. In addition, there are attractions such as ‘Sea of Clouds and Buddha’s Light’, ‘Color-Changing Lake’, ‘Floating Wood Embankment’, and ‘Lake Monster’. How can it not be considered a beautiful and fairy-like scenery in the western regions! To the north are the snow-capped Kuitun Mountains and the towering Friendship Peak. The mountains around the lake are layered and dense, with forests resembling painted screens. Different plant communities are well-defined and colorful. Especially in autumn, the trees are vibrant: gold, crimson, and dark green display a splendid variety of colors. The leaves are lush, and moss and weeds grow everywhere on dead and decaying wood. The meadows in the forest clearings are like lawns, with bright wildflowers. When the wind is calm and the waves are flat, the lake water resembles a pool of jadeite, changing colors with the weather and showcasing different charms from morning to night. Whenever clouds and mist swirl around, the snow-capped peaks and spring mountains appear and disappear, as if in a different world. In summer, after rain in the morning, climbing Camel Peak on the southern section of the lake allows you to witness the miracle of Buddha’s light.
The Three Bays of Kanas consist of Wolong Bay, Moon Bay, and Shenxian Bay. The shores are surrounded by Taiga forests, making it a rare scenic spot in the Kanas scenic area.
Wolong Bay got its name because it resembles a huge dragon. It is said that a dragon was frozen here by ice and snow and has remained there ever since.
The shape of Moon Bay resembles a crescent moon. There are two small islands in the middle of the lake that resemble footprints. The mountain rocks across the lake also resemble the faces of a man and a woman. This place has the most legends. It is said that the footprints in the lake were left by Chang’e and Genghis Khan, while the mountain rocks across the lake were transformed from a loving couple.
The last stop of the Three Bays is Shenxian Bay. There are many small islands with trees growing in Shenxian Bay. When the morning mist rises, they look exceptionally beautiful, as if fairies are wandering among them, hence its name.
When visiting the Three Bays of Kanas in winter, you can stop wherever you like if you rent a car. Enjoy the scenery as you walk and take photos along the way. You can stand on the road to admire the view of the Three Bays or walk along the wooden boardwalk to the waterside to experience the charm of winter.
