  Ili Celestial Horses

  1. Ili is the hometown of Celestial Horses. According to historical records, during the reign of Emperor Wu of Han, foreigners presented Wusun horses to the emperor. Seeing their majestic appearance, Emperor Wu named them "Celestial Horses"; later, someone else presented Khan-blood horses from Dawan in the Western Regions (said to sweat blood-colored sweat), so he renamed the Wusun horses "Western Extreme Horses" and called the Khan-blood horses "Celestial Horses". The "Celestial Horses" and "Western Extreme Horses" mentioned here are ancestors of the Kazak horses of Ili. Ili horses have handsome appearances, sturdy builds, and strong resistance to disease, making them one of the fine horse breeds cultivated in China.

  2. The Yining saddles of Ili have become famous along with the "Celestial Horses". The production of Yining saddles involves many processes, including saddle frame construction, leatherworking, carving, and inlaying, making them exquisite works of art.

  Hometown of Apples

  1. Ili is a famous apple-producing area in Xinjiang and is known as the "Hometown of Apples". Ili preserves rare primitive wild fruit forests, leading many experts to believe that Ili may be one of the origins of cultivated apples in the world.

  2. Ili is suitable for apple growth. Many introduced varieties thrive here better than in their places of origin. Ili apples have bright colors, dense and crispy flesh, a balanced sweetness and sourness, and are resistant to storage and transportation.

  3. There are many rare apple varieties here, including black apples that turn dark purple-black when ripe; tea-colored apples whose skin resembles the strong tea brewed from Fuzhuan tea; milk-colored apples whose skin and flesh resemble milk; oil-soaked apples that become glossy and transparent when ripe; and potato apples, whose skin cracks when ripe, revealing flesh that resembles potatoes (Xinjiang people call potatoes "yangyu"). Ili also has highly ornamental red-fleshed apples, which are unique in that their trunks, branches, flesh, and flowers are all dark red, and their tree crowns are also very beautiful.

  Grassland Wonders

  1. The widely distributed grassy mound tombs, the mysterious and colorful Ili rock paintings, and the rugged and amusing grassland stone figures are known as the "Three Great Cultural Relics Wonders" of the Ili grasslands.

  2. The grassy mound tombs, also known as Wusun mound tombs, are scattered across the vast grasslands of Ili. There are tens of thousands of these mound tombs, most of which are semi-conical in shape and distributed in chains running north-south, in groups of three, five, or more than ten to twenty. The larger ones have a base circumference of 350 meters and are over 20 meters tall. The towering earth mounds of these tombs are magnificent and eye-catching. Yi
