Recommended three-day tour route of Yili:
Day 1: Yining – Sayram Lake – Guozigou Bridge – Huocheng Lavender Manor
In the morning, depart from Yining and head to Sayram Lake, known as the “Last Tear of the Atlantic Ocean”. Along the way, you can appreciate the magnificent scenery of Northern Xinjiang and feel the transition from the city to the wilderness.
Arrive at Sayram Lake at noon. There are restaurants by the lake where you can taste local delicacies, such as fresh highland whitefish.
In the afternoon, drive along Sayram Lake and enjoy the lake scenery and mountain views. Take photos at attractions such as Qinshuitan and Dianjiangtai. The lake water is clear and blue, contrasting beautifully with the distant snow-capped mountains.
In the evening, head to Guozigou Bridge. This spectacular bridge lies like a huge dragon across the mountains. You can appreciate its full view from the observation deck.
Then head to Huocheng Lavender Manor. From June to August is the lavender blooming season. The purple flower sea stretches as far as the eye can see, which is perfect for taking photos.
Day 2: Huocheng – Kalajun Grassland – Qiongkushitai
In the morning, depart from Huocheng and head to Kalajun Grassland. It is divided into East and West Kalajun and Koksu Grand Canyon. If you have enough time, you can visit them all.
On the Kalajun Grassland, you can follow the route from Blake Ticket Station → Shiquan → Flower Terrace → Falcon Hunting Terrace → Kalajun Ropeway Station → Kurtai Ropeway Station → Crocodile Bay → Human-shaped Grassland → Kurtai Dock → Kushutayi Dock → Visitor Center for sightseeing.
After finishing the tour of Kalajun in the afternoon, head to Qiongkushitai. It is as peaceful as a haven of tranquility. You can hike, ride horses, and enjoy the blue sky, white clouds, meadow flower sea, and dark green forests.
Day 3: Qiongkushitai – Tekes – Yining
In the morning, continue playing in Qiongkushitai or choose to visit Tekes Bagua City. Tekes is a mysterious place. Its city layout is designed according to the Bagua pattern, which is very unique.
In the afternoon, return to Yining from Tekes. Along the way, you can review the wonderful moments of these three days and feel the beauty and charm of Yili.
After arriving in Yining, you can choose to stroll around local specialty shops, listen to street performers’ strumming and singing, and enjoy a pleasant night.
