Xinjiang Travel Guide: Kanas + Bayanbulak + Hemu - Golden Fairy Tale Tour

  In the hearts of travelers

Xinjiang may be the most desirable place

Besides the vastness and mystery here

It’s more about the breathtaking scenery

The last tear of the Atlantic Ocean – Sayram Lake

Sayram Lake, anciently known as ‘Pure Lake’, has clear and blue water and a wide lake surface. It is a beautiful alpine lake. Snow-capped mountains, grasslands, and the azure lake form a stunning picture scroll.

When the car came out of the tunnel, the first sight of Haizi (a lake) stunned me like being under a spell. This is simply not a scenery that can be seen on earth.

It is so enchantingly beautiful, like a fairyland, surrounded by green-blue mountains that are still so verdant.

The late literati Song Bolu described the magnificent and clear natural landscape of Sayram Lake with the poem, ‘Four mountains engulf the vastness, one pure blue wipes the sky clear’.

’Kanas’ is a Mongolian word meaning ‘beautiful and rich, mysterious and unpredictable’. Here, the spectacular glaciers contrast with the tranquil lake, and the vast grassland encompasses the deep primitive forest. The mysterious lake monster, the primitive Tuwa people, the changing lake water, and the dazzling scenery all fascinate people.

The color of Kanas Lake often changes, from blue, grayish blue, emerald green, dark green to milky green, earning it the name ‘Color-Changing Lake’, which is very magical.

The ‘Nine-Bend and Eighteen-Turn’ Bayanbulak Grassland

Bayanbulak means ‘abundant spring’ in Mongolian. The grassland is flat and rich in water and grass. It is a typical meadow grassland of gramineous herbs and also one of the most important animal husbandry bases in Xinjiang.

This is another side of Xinjiang, a vast plateau wetland grassland with winding streams. Only when you come here will you know that Xinjiang is not just about deserts and Gobi, but also has the beautiful scenery of Jiangnan (south of the Great Wall).

The blue sky is dotted with white clouds, which match well with the flocks of cattle and sheep on the grassland.

There are not only secluded paradises surrounded by snow-capped mountains, the ‘Nine-Bend and Eighteen-Turn’ Kaitu River, but also the elegant and charming Swan Lake.

  Qiongkushitai Grassland, like a carpet

This beautiful grassland at the foot of the Tianshan Mountains, with the help of light and shadow, is filled with life and vitality, complemented by yurts and wooden cabins on the undulating grassland.

The vast and expansive Qiongkushitai, where time seems to stand still. The refreshing natural breeze sweeps away guests’ fatigue.

Nature’s hand has carved this once calm grassland into gullies, turning it into green, fluffy slopes that undulate like musical notation.

This is an unspoiled grassland, with green grass covering the hills like a green fur carpet. With blue skies and white clouds overhead, it feels like they are within reach. The sunrise and sunset at dawn and dusk make the grassland even more beautiful.

The grassland ripples like the waves of the sea, with cows, horses, and sheep trampling on these beauty spots.

Fairy Tale Town – Hemu Village

The most beautiful autumn scenery in the Kanas area is in Hemu. The layered forests are immersed in vibrant colors, creating a typical primitive natural landscape.

Hemu Village is most famous for its intoxicating autumn scenery with mountains covered in red leaves. Smoke rises amidst the autumn colors, forming a dreamlike smoke belt like a fairyland.

Especially in autumn, the beauty of Hemu Village will captivate anyone with its mountains filled with yellow birch trees and snowy peaks, creating beautiful landscapes everywhere.

On the small hills surrounding Hemu Village, one can overlook the panoramic view of Hemu Village and the Hemu River. The empty valley, the winding river, and horsemen raising dust as they pass through the jungle… The quaint mountain village scenery is as mysterious as Kanas Lake.

  Baihaba Village

In the morning light of Baihaba, with smoke rising and surrounding snow-capped mountains, Baihaba, nestled among the mountains, appears even more serene and beautiful. Experience the authentic life of the Tuwa and Kazak people.

Baihaba is peaceful and serene, with primitive forests, log cabins, curling smoke, light morning mist, and mysterious residents, jointly forming a fairy tale kingdom.

  Tianshan Kuqa Grand Canyon

The Uyghur term ‘Keziliya’ means ‘red cliffs’. The reddish-brown mountain ranges of the ‘Tianshan Grand Canyon’ stretch into the sky, resembling clusters of burning flames under the sunshine.

The charming aspect of the ‘Tianshan Grand Canyon’ lies not only in its grandeur and steepness, but also in its depth, tranquility, and mystery.

Hike the Xiate Ancient Path once

The Xiate Ancient Path connects the north and south of the Tianshan Mountains, with a total length of 120 kilometers. It is a shortcut from Northern Xinjiang to Southern Xinjiang and is a famous and perilous ancient pass on the Silk Road.

Xinjiang Travel Guide: Kanas + Bayanbulak + Hemu - Golden Fairy Tale Tour

The Xiate Ancient Path is a high-risk hiking and exploration route that combines archaeology and adventure. It crosses the Hatamuzi Daban on the main ridge of the Tianshan Mountains at an altitude of 3600m, traverses the Tianshan Mountains, and connects the north and south of Xinjiang.

Walking on such a historically significant ancient path, often one thinks of desolation, which can sometimes be a kind of beauty; silence may be another way of life’s expression…
