Best Travel Time
Due to climatic differences, all four seasons in Xinjiang are worth visiting, and each season has its own uniqueness. Generally speaking: July to September is the best travel time in Northern Xinjiang; August to October is the best travel time in Southern Xinjiang.
January – February: Hemu Snow Village, Kanas Snow Village, Kashgar in Southern Xinjiang, andMuztagh Ata Glacier. At this time, Xinjiang has fewer people and beautiful scenery.
March – April: Be aware that spring is coming to Xinjiang soon. This is a good time to see apricot blossoms. The apricot blossoms in Tashkurgan County (Datong Township, Bandir Township), the Nalati Apricot Blossom Valley… The time of apricot blossoms varies each year, so please refer to specific notices.
May: Southern Xinjiang gradually enters summer, while Northern Xinjiang enters spring. Kanas has not yet entered spring and needs to wait for the grass to turn green. At this time, you can see the flowers blooming in Yili, and the scenery varies depending on the flowering period.
June – August: Xinjiang is fully blooming, and it is the best time to enjoy lavender fields and rapeseed flower seas; the scenery of the Eastern Swiss-like landscape composed of grasslands, lakes, and snow-capped mountains will also reach its best during this period.
September: Don’t go to Yili at this time. Once the grasslands in Yili turn yellow, they are not as beautiful. The main attractions are in Kanas and Southern Xinjiang. The popular autumn scenery in Kanas begins to take shape, with a fairyland composed of golden birch forests and the cooking smoke of the Tuwa people, which is a heaven favored by photographers.
October: The birch forest in Kanas and the Populus euphratica in Southern Xinjiang.
November – December: Same as January – February.
Which side of Southern and Northern Xinjiang is more fun?
The Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, abbreviated as Xinjiang, is located in the northwest border of China, with an area of 1.66 million square kilometers, accounting for one-sixth of China’s total land area. For those with limited time, it is indeed a very difficult decision to play throughout Xinjiang. Then we need to understand clearly in advance the scenery we want to see.
Let’s put it this way, Northern Xinjiang has more beautiful scenery, while Southern Xinjiang has more flavorful culture. Xinjiang is divided into Northern and Southern Xinjiang by the Tianshan Mountains.
The main travel destinations in Northern Xinjiang generally refer to Tianchi Lake in Tianshan Mountains, Turpan, as well as the Kumtag Desert in Shanshan, Yili, Sayram Lake, Kanas, and Koktokay.
Southern Xinjiang has China’s Taklamakan Desert, the world’s tenth largest desert, the desert highway that many people want to cross, and Xinjiang’s Populus euphratica forests in Tarim, as well as the Lop Nur, an uninhabited area challenging the limits.
