Travel Diary of a Chartered Tour in Xinjiang?
In the early spring of 2025, I finally embarked on my long-awaited journey to Xinjiang. Xinjiang, which occupies one-sixth of the country’s territory, attracts me with its vast and magnificent natural scenery and unique cultural landscapes. To explore this magical land more freely and deeply, I chose the method of a chartered tour.?
Before departure, I did a lot of research and compared several chartered tour companies, ultimately choosing one with a good reputation and attentive service. They arranged an experienced driver for me. The driver was not only familiar with the road conditions but also very humorous. He told us many interesting stories about the local customs and culture of Xinjiang along the way.?
Our itinerary started in Urumqi, and on the first day, we headed straight for the Wucaitan National Scenic Area. The unique landform of Wucaitan amazed me. Those colorful rocks were even more enchanting under the setting sun. In the evening, we stayed in Burqin County, tasted the local cuisine, and felt the warm hospitality of the Xinjiang people.?
In the following days, we traveled along the route of Northern Xinjiang, visiting famous attractions such as Hemu Village, Kanas Lake, and the Devil’s City. The tranquility and beauty of Hemu Village seemed like a hidden paradise. The mysterious legends and stunning scenery of Kanas Lake were captivating, while the Devil’s City showcased the amazing workmanship of nature with its unique Yadan landform.?
The experience of driving on the Duku Highway was unforgettable. The Duku Highway is known as the "Most Beautiful Highway in China," with picturesque scenery along the way that is intoxicating. Although the road was somewhat bumpy, seeing those beautiful views that can only be seen on the road made it all worthwhile.?
In addition to natural scenery, we also visited some attractions with cultural characteristics, such as Sayram Lake, Lavender Base, and Kazhanqi Folk Street. These places allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of Xinjiang’s culture and history.?
During the chartered tour, I felt an unprecedented sense of freedom and comfort. We could stop to view the scenery and take photos anytime according to our interests and physical condition, without being restricted by time and itinerary like a group tour. At the same time, the driver’s thoughtful service and rich experience also saved us from many worries.?
Of course, the cuisine of Xinjiang was also an indispensable part of this trip. We tasted local specialties such as roast whole lamb, hand-grabbed rice, and large plate chicken. Each dish was memorable.?
This chartered tour in Xinjiang was extremely rewarding. I not only admired the stunning scenery and unique culture of Xinjiang, but also made friends with a humorous driver and a group of like-minded people. I believe this journey will become one of the most precious memories of my life.?
